Metroid Prime Hunters came out on the Nintendo DS in 2006, developed by Nintendo Software Technology. It was one of the earlier first-person shooters on the handheld, and it really pushed what the system could do, especially with its online multiplayer mode. The game fit right into that era of experimental DS titles that made interesting use of the dual screens and touch controls.
You play as Samus Aran, exploring different planets to hunt down powerful artifacts before rival bounty hunters can claim them. The touch screen handles aiming and switching between your beam weapons and morph ball, while the top screen shows the action. You spend a lot of time scanning environments for clues, solving minor puzzles, and engaging in fast combat against aliens and other hunters. The pacing is deliberate when you're exploring, but it shifts quickly during boss fights or player encounters. It feels tense and isolating at times, especially when you know another player is hunting the same objective you are.
