Game Overview
Metroid Prime Hunters takes Samus to the Alimbic Cluster after the Galactic Federation catches wind of some "ultimate power" hidden there—classic space bounty hunter stuff. But surprise, six other hunters show up too, each with their own slick abilities and reasons for being there. The single-player feels a bit more shooter-heavy than usual for Metroid, though you’ll still get those satisfying moments of backtracking with new weapons to solve puzzles. And yeah, you start with all your moves right away, which is nice.
Multiplayer’s where it really shines though—it’s basically a pocket-sized Unreal Tournament on the DS. You can play as any of the hunters you’ve beaten in the story, and there’s a ton of modes, from straight-up deathmatch to objective-based stuff like Capture. The maps are surprisingly varied for a handheld game, and back in the day, the Wi-Fi battles got seriously intense. Voice chat was a fun touch if you had friends’ codes. Still holds up as one of the best FPS experiences on the DS.
