Play Mighty Max (Beta) Online

You bounce through time smacking monsters with your magic cap—Egyptian mummies one minute, gooey alien eyeballs the next. The controls are tight for a lost SNES beta, and everything’s dripping with that gross-cool ‘90s charm.

Game Overview

Okay, so Mighty Max (Beta) on SNES is this weird little time capsule of a game—literally, since you’re jumping through portals to fight monsters across history. You play as Max, a kid with a magic baseball cap (because ‘90s logic) that lets him warp to places like a mummy-infested Egypt or some alien hive that looks like it’s made of chewed-up bubblegum.

The controls feel surprisingly good for an unreleased beta—your jumps are snappy, and the Cap of Power actually does useful stuff, like letting you hover for a second or zap enemies. The pixel art’s got that chunky, colorful SNES vibe, especially the bosses, which are all gross in the best way (one’s basically a giant eyeball with tentacles).

It’s got that cheesy Saturday-morning-cartoon energy, complete with weird sound effects and a soundtrack that’s equal parts synth and spooky. Found myself grinning at how over-the-top some of the levels are, like the haunted pirate ship where skeletons pop out of barrels. Definitely a niche pick, but if you’re into lost beta games or just miss when platformers were allowed to be this unapologetically weird, it’s a fun little rabbit hole to fall into.
