Mighty Max on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System came out in 1994, developed by Ocean Software. It was part of that wave of licensed games based on the popular toy line and animated series, fitting right in with the platformers and action adventures that filled the SNES library at the time.

You control Max, a kid who travels through different time periods and dimensions using a magical cap. The main goal is to navigate side scrolling levels, defeat various monsters, and rescue your friend Virgil. Signature mechanics include using the cap itself as both a weapon and a shield, screen by screen exploration with some light puzzle solving, and facing off against large boss enemies at the end of each stage. The pacing is fairly quick, and the difficulty can be unforgiving with precise jumps and timing required. It feels like a straightforward, monster bashing adventure that captures the weirdness of the source material.
