Mini Ninjas for the Nintendo DS came out in 2009, developed by IO Interactive. It was part of that wave of action-adventure games that really tried to make the most of the dual screens and stylus controls, fitting right in with the handheld's library at the time.
You control Hiro, a young ninja on a mission to rescue his captured friends and defeat an evil warlord. The game plays out across interconnected screens, mixing exploration with light puzzle solving and combat. You use a sword for close attacks and a bow for ranged shots, and each of the six playable ninjas has a unique special ability, like turning invisible or summoning animal spirits. The pacing is steady, not too hard, with a focus on clearing areas and collecting spirit energy and scrolls. It feels like a compact, charming adventure that makes good use of the DS hardware.
