Game Overview

Monopoly on Game Boy Color came out in 1999, published by Hasbro Interactive. It was one of those late-era GBC releases that tried to bring a full board game experience to a handheld, right before the Advance changed everything. You got the classic property trading, but now it was all on that little reflective screen.

You control a token moving around the board, buying properties and building houses to bankrupt the other players. The main goal is the same as always: be the last one with money. Key mechanics include managing your cash and deeds screen by screen, making deals with AI opponents who actually negotiate (sometimes poorly), and watching the property cards fill up as you monopolize color groups. The pacing can drag in longer games, and the AI makes questionable choices, but it feels satisfying to slowly corner the market and watch rivals fold. It’s a solid, portable version of the game that captures the tension of the original.
