Game Overview

Man, Mortal Kombat on SNES was wild back in the day. The digitized sprites made the fighters look almost real compared to other games at the time—though by today's standards, they're gloriously janky. You pick your warrior, jump into the arena, and immediately notice how brutal it feels. The punches land with this satisfying crunch, and yeah, the blood sprays everywhere (though the SNES version was toned down from the arcade).

What really hooked people were the fatalities. Messing up the button inputs at first, then finally nailing Scorpion's "Get over here!" spear followed by ripping someone's head off—that never got old. The SNES version didn't have all the gore of the arcade, but it still felt edgy as hell for a Nintendo console. The soundtrack’s this weird mix of ominous synth and punchy combat beats that somehow works.

It’s clunky now, but back then, this was the fighting game that made parents freak out and kids lose their minds.
