Game Overview

I remember getting Mortal Kombat on my Game Boy back in 1993, a portable version of the arcade hit from Midway. It was a time when having a full fighting game in your pocket felt like a minor miracle, even with the hardware's obvious limitations. The game captured the core of the experience, letting you take the brutal tournament anywhere.

You pick a fighter from the roster, like Scorpion or Sub-Zero, and battle through a series of opponents in one-on-one fights. The main goal is to defeat each rival and ultimately win the tournament. Signature mechanics include performing special moves with specific directional inputs and, of course, the infamous fatalities to finish off a defeated foe. The pacing is deliberate, and the difficulty can be sharp, especially with the smaller controls. It feels surprisingly complete for a handheld adaptation of its time.
