Game Overview

Mortal Kombat hit the Super Nintendo in 1992, a port of the arcade hit from Midway. It was one of those games that felt different from everything else on the system, with digitized actors instead of cartoon sprites. The controversy over its violence was everywhere back then, which just made you want to play it more.

You pick from seven fighters, each with their own special moves, and battle through a tournament. The main goal is to defeat your opponent in one-on-one fights, round by round, until you face the final boss. Signature mechanics include pulling off special moves with precise joystick motions (like Sub-Zero's ice blast) and, of course, the finishing Fatalities. The game is fast and demanding, with the AI quickly punishing any mistake. It feels raw and aggressive, a stark contrast to the more methodical fighters of the time.
