Game Overview

MTV Sports: Skateboarding on the Game Boy Color is one of those early isometric skate games where you’re constantly fighting the camera angle—but in a weirdly charming way. You’ve got Andy Macdonald (yes, the actual pro skater) and three other characters to pick from, each with their own stats. The controls take a minute to get used to—hold A to crouch, release to ollie, then mash buttons mid-air for grabs or spins.

The real fun is in the 18 cities you can unlock, from Venice Beach to some bizarre neon-lit rooftops. You’ll grind benches, kickflip off ramps, and hunt for floating MTV logos like they’re some kind of skateboarding Easter egg. Free-Skate mode lets you revisit any unlocked spot to mess around without the pressure of objectives. It’s janky by today’s standards, but there’s something satisfying about landing a perfect combo when the camera isn’t working against you.
