Play Multiplan Online
Typing "/" to summon commands while your budget spreadsheet slowly comes alive—this is how we automated math before Excel made it look easy.

Microsoft released Multiplan in 1982 as part of their early MS-DOS offerings, a spreadsheet program that felt more like a puzzle than a productivity tool. It ran on machines where every keystroke mattered, and the green or amber glow of the monitor was your only companion. This wasn't about flashy graphics; it was about organizing numbers in a grid and making them behave.
You control the cursor, moving cell by cell to enter values, write formulas, and define relationships between distant parts of the sheet. The main objective is to build a functional financial model or solve a budgeting problem, often with limited memory and processing power. Signature mechanics include using slash commands to bring up a menu of functions and carefully structuring references so that changing one number updates others automatically. The pacing is deliberate, almost slow, and mistakes in logic are easy to make but satisfying to untangle. It feels like quietly assembling a complex machine where every gear has to mesh perfectly.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
