I picked up The Muppets for Game Boy Color back in 2000, a time when licensed games were everywhere. It was published by NEC Interchannel, and like many games of that era, it tried to capture the spirit of its source material on limited hardware. You could tell it was made with the Muppets in mind, even if the execution felt a bit rough around the edges.

You control Kermit the Frog and Animal, switching between them to solve puzzles and get through levels. Kermit is the careful one; he jumps across gaps and uses his tiny banjo to stun enemies. Animal is pure chaos; he smashes through obstacles and enemies with his drum set. The goal is to travel through time, fixing history by collecting pages of a storybook scattered across each stage. The platforming feels slippery, and some jumps require precise timing that the controls don't always allow. Despite the frustration, there's a silly charm to whacking things with Animal or hearing Kermit's little banjo twang. It feels like a messy but earnest attempt to bring the Muppets' humor into a video game.
