Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon came out on the Nintendo 64 in 1997, developed and published by Konami. You control Goemon, a spry ninja who explores towns and countryside areas screen by screen, fighting off odd enemies with his pipe or using his partner Ebisumaru's bow. The main goal is to stop a theatrical troupe from turning Japan into a stage for their performances, which involves delving into multi-level dungeons, solving environmental puzzles, and collecting special items to progress. The pacing is generally relaxed, though some later platforming sections can get tricky. It feels like taking a cheerful, slightly surreal tour through a living storybook.
