Game Overview

NBA Jam Tournament Edition EasyType came out for the Super Nintendo in 1995, a Midway release that took the already frantic arcade basketball formula and made it more accessible. It was part of that wave of games where you just picked it up and played, no long manual required, fitting right in with the SNES library's focus on immediate, competitive fun.

You control a team of two NBA players, running up and down a shortened court to score more points than the opposing team before time runs out. The signature mechanics are all here: shoving defenders out of the way to steal the ball, building up a meter for turbo boosts, and leaping from the free-throw line for gravity-defying dunks that shatter the backboard. The pacing is relentless, a constant back-and-forth with very few stoppages, and the EasyType controls simplify the complex button combinations needed for special moves in earlier versions. It feels like pure, exaggerated basketball mayhem where every possession could end with a rim-rattling slam.
