Night Hunter came out in 1988 for MS-DOS, published by Ubi Soft. It was one of those games that felt ambitious for its time, trying to do something different with the vampire mythos on a platform known for text adventures and simpler arcade ports. You don't play the hero; you are the monster, and that shift in perspective was unusual back then.
You control Dracula, moving screen by screen through a gothic landscape. Your goal is to survive the night by hunting villagers and avoiding hunters like Van Helsing, all while managing a strict time limit before the sun rises and kills you. Key mechanics include shape-shifting into a wolf or bat to access new areas or escape threats, and using those forms strategically to avoid weapons that are fatal to your humanoid form. The game is tense and difficult, demanding careful movement and quick decisions. It feels like a desperate race against the light, where every screen could be your last.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
