Nights Into Dreams is one of those Sega Saturn gems that feels like playing inside a surreal cartoon. You alternate between two kids—Elliot, a basketball-loving boy who just got humiliated in a pickup game, and Claris, a singer who panics on stage. Their dreams merge with Nights, this rebellious jester-like creature trying to escape its evil creator, Wizeman.
The gameplay’s this weird, floaty mix of Sonic-style speed and dream logic. You’re mostly flying through pastel-colored levels, looping around rings and pulling off these ridiculous aerial tricks by mashing the D-pad. It takes a second to get used to the controls—you’ll probably faceplant into a few walls before nailing the rhythm. But once it clicks, swooping through those neon dreamscapes feels oddly satisfying.
What’s cool is how the levels change depending on whether you’re playing as Elliot or Claris. Same world, totally different vibe. And yeah, the dancing mechanic is as weird as it sounds—wiggle the D-pad after landing, and Nights busts out this goofy little victory shimmy for bonus points.
