Nine Princes in Amber came out in 1995 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games lineup, developed by Telarium. It was a time when adventure games often relied on text parsers and static graphics, and this one fit right into that niche, drawing directly from Roger Zelazny’s novels. You don’t see many adaptations that stick so closely to the source material, especially back then.

You control Corwin, an amnesiac prince, typing text commands to explore strange worlds, engage in dialogue with treacherous relatives, and command armies in turn-based tactical combat. The main goal is to reclaim your memory and your rightful place in the cosmic struggle for the throne of Amber. You move screen by screen through illustrated locations, solve inventory-based puzzles, and make choices that influence the story. The pacing is deliberate, and some puzzles can be obscure, but pushing through the challenges brings a real sense of unfolding a grand, personal saga. It feels like directing your own version of a rich, devious fantasy epic.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
