Ninja Burai Densetsu came out for the Sega Genesis in 1991, developed by Sims. It was one of those games that felt a bit different from the usual action platformers or RPGs on the system at the time, offering a mix of strategy and real-time combat that wasn't very common.
You control a squad of ninjas, moving them on a strategic map to engage enemy forces in tactical, turn-based encounters. When a battle starts, it shifts into a real-time mode where you directly control one ninja, slashing with your sword, using special items, or employing ninja arts. The main goal is to stop Nobunaga's army by completing missions, rescuing allies, and strengthening your team. The game keeps a constant pressure on you with a day/night cycle and a calendar; if you take too long preparing, enemy forces advance and the situation worsens. It feels tense and demanding, forcing you to balance careful planning with quick action during fights.
