Ninja Gaiden 3 - The Ancient Ship Of Doom (PC10) is one of those NES games that feels punishing but fair, if you're patient. The first level throws you right into it: narrow platforms, enemies that respawn the second you move off-screen, and jumps that demand pixel-perfect timing. You die a lot, but each failure teaches you something.
What stands out is how fluid Ryu controls compared to other NES action games. His wall-climbing and sword slashes feel responsive, even when you're getting swarmed. The difficulty spikes hard in later stages, though, some sections feel like trial-and-error memorization more than skill.
The atmosphere is surprisingly moody for an 8-bit game. Dark corridors, flickering torches, and that eerie soundtrack make the ancient ship feel genuinely unsettling.
