Game Overview
Nintendogs is basically the closest thing you'll get to having a real puppy on your Nintendo DS. You start by picking your favorite breed (I went with the dachshund because, well, tiny legs), naming it, and then suddenly you're responsible for this little digital creature that barks at you through the speakers.
The mic actually works for commands—say "sit" clearly enough and your pup might actually listen (or ignore you completely, which feels weirdly realistic). You'll spend way too much time scratching their belly with the stylus or tossing a frisbee in the park minigame. The competitions are fun, but good luck winning agility trials when your dog gets distracted by its own tail.
What's cool is that if you bump into another Nintendogs player in "Bark Mode," your dogs can meet and you'll unlock their breed. I remember begging my friend with the Lab version to hang out so I could get that golden retriever. There's something oddly satisfying about watching your pixel pup fall asleep after a long play session.
Just don't neglect them—they'll give you serious guilt eyes if you leave them alone too long.
