Nintendogs - Dalmatian & Friends is one of those games that makes you forget you're holding a DS. You start by picking your puppy—Dalmatians, Labs, Beagles, and a few others—and suddenly you're scratching its ears with the stylus, tossing a frisbee, or laughing when it sneezes after sniffing flowers. The touchscreen controls just feel right, like you're actually petting a dog.
At first, I thought it was just about playing fetch, but there's more to it. You can teach them tricks (mine still won't roll over without bribery), enter agility contests, or just take them for walks to find hidden items. The barking comes through the DS speakers surprisingly clear—my dog actually perked up the first time she heard it. It's simple, but weirdly satisfying to just hang out with your virtual pup between real-life errands.
If you ever wanted a dog but couldn't have one, this is the next best thing without the chewed-up shoes.
