Play North and South Online
You command tiny armies in a goofy Civil War sim—strategize on the map, then scramble to place cannons in chaotic side-scrolling battles. Robbing trains with pixel soldiers never gets old.

North and South came out on the NES in 1989, published by Infogrames. It was a strange and clever little game for its time, a mix of strategy and action that felt different from most other titles on the console. It didn't try to be an epic; it was just a fun, oddball take on the American Civil War.
You control either the Union or Confederate forces, moving armies on a strategic map to capture states. The real fun starts when two armies meet, switching to a side-scrolling battle where you directly command your troops. You run around placing cannons, managing infantry, and trying to rob the enemy's supply train as it chugs across the screen. The pace is frantic, a little silly, and surprisingly difficult to master. It feels like playing with toy soldiers in a very chaotic, very entertaining sandbox.
