Osadníci came out in 1996 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games collection from TopWare CD-Service AG. It was one of those mid-90s strategy titles that didn't try to be flashy, just solid and functional, with a distinct Eastern European feel to its mechanics and setting.
You control a Slavic prince tasked with building and defending a settlement. The main goal is to gather resources, construct buildings, and train units to fend off enemy attacks. Key mechanics include managing villagers who chop wood, mine stone, and farm; you also train military units like axe fighters and archers to protect your territory. The pacing is deliberate, with moments of calm interrupted by sudden raids that demand quick reactions. It feels like a rough, earnest simulation of survival against the odds.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
