Outlaw for the Atari 2600 came out in 1978, developed and published by Atari themselves. It was one of the earlier two player shooters on the system, a simple concept built for quick matches against a friend rather than a deep single player adventure.

You control a lone cowboy on screen, moving left and right to dodge behind cacti while trying to line up a shot. The main goal is straightforward: shoot the other player before they shoot you. The signature mechanics are the cover provided by the cacti and the way bullets travel in an arc, forcing you to aim high or low depending on the distance. Matches are fast and unpredictable, often ending in a frantic exchange of near misses. It feels like a quick, silly test of reflexes more than a serious duel.
