Tearing down coastal roads in a Testarossa with the camera practically scraping the pavement—hills blind you, sharp turns feel dangerous, and picking the brutal route always ends in hilarious disaster. Crank the in-game radio and dodge traffic like you're actually late for something.

OutRun on MS-DOS came out in 1989 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games series, published by Sega. It was one of those early PC ports that tried to bring the arcade experience home, even if the hardware of the time couldn't quite match the smoothness of the original. For many, it was a glimpse into what racing games could be, even on a beige box with a keyboard and no steering wheel.
You control a driver in a red Ferrari Testarossa, racing against a timer across branching stages. The main objective is to reach checkpoints before time runs out, choosing your path at the end of each segment. The signature mechanics include managing your speed around sharp curves, weaving through traffic that suddenly appears, and picking between easier or harder routes that affect your time and the scenery. The pacing is relentless; one mistake can cost precious seconds, and the physics make every turn feel risky. It feels like a constant, tense push against the clock, where every decision matters right up to the finish line.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
