Play Overkill Online
You pilot a tiny ship through waves of chunky alien fighters, dodging slow bullets while that tinny PC speaker soundtrack somehow still gets you hyped—until planet two kicks your ass.

Overkill came out in 1992, published by Epic MegaGames for MS-DOS. It was one of those shareware shooters that felt right at home on a 386, with chunky pixel graphics and a soundtrack that pushed the limits of the PC speaker. It didn't try to be the most complex game on the platform, but it had a certain straightforward charm that kept you coming back.
You control a small, nimble ship, moving it through a series of vertically scrolling levels filled with alien enemies. Your main objective is to survive each wave, shooting down fighters and dodging their slow but persistent projectiles. The game uses a screen by screen progression; you clear one section of enemies before advancing to the next. Power-ups occasionally drop, letting you upgrade your weapons or gain temporary shields. The pacing is methodical at first, but the difficulty ramps up sharply, especially on later planets where enemy patterns become more aggressive. It feels tense and satisfying when you finally beat a level that had been giving you trouble.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
