The dungeons shift to a first-person view, grid based and disorienting; many players ended up mapping them on graph paper to avoid getting lost. Combat is turn based, with options to attack, use techniques (which are essentially magic), or attempt to run. The game is challenging, sometimes punishingly so, with frequent random encounters and tough boss fights. Progress feels earned through careful planning and persistence, and the world has a cohesive, lived-in quality that makes exploration satisfying.
