Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney − Trials and Tribulations came out on the Nintendo DS in 2007, developed and published by Capcom. It was part of that era where the DS had a lot of quirky, text-heavy games that really used the touch screen in clever ways. This was the third game in the series, and it wrapped up a lot of the story threads from the first two, so it felt like a real payoff if you'd been following along.

You play as defense attorney Phoenix Wright, and sometimes his mentor Mia Fey in flashback cases. The game is split between investigating crime scenes and arguing in court. During investigations, you tap around environments to find clues, talk to witnesses, and piece together what happened. In court, you cross-examine witnesses, press their statements for contradictions, and present evidence when something doesn't add up. The pacing is deliberate; you have to think carefully about every detail, and the difficulty comes from paying close attention to testimony and evidence. It feels incredibly satisfying when you catch someone in a lie and turn the case around with a well-timed objection.
