You control a former villain named Wes, traveling through the arid region of Orre. Your main goal is to "snag" Shadow Pokemon, which are corrupted creatures, from other trainers using a special device. You explore the world screen by screen, navigating towns and routes while managing a limited party, since you can't just catch wild Pokemon to fill your roster.
