Play Pokemon DarkViolet (beta 2) Online
Kanto feels fresh again—maps twist in new ways, gym leaders hit harder, and wild encounters keep you guessing. Your old FireRed strats won’t work here.

Pokémon DarkViolet feels like someone took FireRed and ran it through a moody, slightly rebellious filter—in the best way. The first thing you’ll notice is how the maps twist just enough to throw off your muscle memory, with new paths and hidden areas that make Kanto feel unexplored again. Wild encounters are shuffled, so you’re not just catching the same old Pidgey and Rattata by Route 2.
The rival’s got way more attitude, and the gym leaders? They don’t mess around. I wiped twice before realizing my overleveled Charizard wasn’t gonna carry me like it used to. There’s something satisfying about seeing classic sprites and mechanics polished up with little surprises—like finding an Eevee way earlier than expected, or stumbling into a battle with a trainer who actually has a strategy.
It’s still a beta, so some corners are rough (don’t expect a full post-game yet), but what’s here nails that mix of nostalgia and fresh challenge. If you’ve ever wanted to replay Kanto but wished it’d fight back a little harder, this is the rom hack for you.
