Pokemon Fire Red (2CH) (J) is basically the classic Kanto journey but with a fresh coat of paint. You start in Pallet Town with the usual choice of Bulbasaur, Charmander, or Squirtle, and it all feels familiar yet slightly crisper than the original.

What stands out early is how slow the text speed is by default. You'll probably tweak that in the options. The first few routes are packed with trainers itching to battle, and grinding feels necessary unless you pick Charmander—Brock's gym is brutal otherwise.

One thing I noticed is how the game forces you to backtrack a lot. You'll hit roadblocks where you need to find an item or talk to someone before progressing, which can be annoying if you just want to move forward. The Sevii Islands add some extra content, but they feel tacked on compared to the main story.

Still, it's a solid remake. Pokemon Fire Red (2CH) (J) keeps the charm of the original while making small improvements, even if some of the pacing feels dated now.
