Pokemon Rubin (G) is one of those GBA roms that feels familiar but different enough to keep you hooked. You start in Littleroot Town like usual, but the Hoenn region here has this slightly off vibe—some routes are rearranged, and the gym leaders don't always use the teams you'd expect.
I remember grinding my Treecko early on, only to run into a trainer with a level 15 Wingull that wrecked me. The difficulty spikes can be weird, but it makes battles feel less predictable. The overworld sprites are the same as the original, but some of the wild encounters are shuffled, so you might find a Ralts way earlier than you should.
It's not a full overhaul, more like someone tweaked the original just enough to make you pay attention. If you've played Ruby a dozen times, Pokemon Rubin (G) at least keeps you guessing a little.
