Game Overview
Pokémon - Version Noire is basically Black Version in French, but don’t let that stop you if you’re not fluent—the gameplay’s the same addictive mix of catching, battling, and wandering into tall grass like you own the place. You start off in Nuvema Town (or whatever it’s called in French) with your usual choice of starter Pokémon, and before long, you’re getting stopped every five steps by trainers who really want to fight.
The DS graphics hold up surprisingly well, especially the animated sprites during battles. Team Plasma’s whole "liberate Pokémon" schtick feels a little more dramatic when it’s in French, too. And yeah, you’ll still lose hours grinding your Tepig into an Emboar or hunting down those weirdly specific evolution stones.
If you’ve played Black before, it’s the same game—just with baguette-flavored text. If you haven’t, well, now you get to experience Unova’s weirdly linear routes and all those Gen 5 Pokémon for the first time. Either way, it’s still one of the better Pokémon games on the DS.
