Game Overview

Pokémon Version Noire 2 is a fan-made twist on the classic DS Pokémon games—think Black 2, but with a darker, grittier vibe. You still get that familiar rush of exploring new towns, stumbling into tall grass, and panicking when a wild Shinx pops up at full health while your team’s barely hanging on.

The sprites and environments got a moody overhaul, which actually works surprisingly well. Team Plasma’s usual shenanigans feel a little more sinister here, and some of the rival battles actually caught me off guard. Still has all the usual stuff—breeding, gyms, way too many Zubats—but with enough tweaks to keep it interesting if you’ve played the originals to death.

Just don’t expect a full-blown official game polish. Some dialogue’s a bit rough, and I ran into a weird glitch where a trainer’s Purrloin clipped through a wall. But hey, it’s free, and it’s more Pokémon. That’s usually enough.
