Pong: The Next Level came out for the Game Boy Color in 1999, developed by Light and Shadow and published by Infogrames. It was part of a wave of late-era Color titles that tried to reimagine classic arcade concepts with more visual flair and gameplay twists, moving beyond simple black and white paddles.
You control a paddle at the edge of the screen, deflecting a ball back toward your opponent while trying to score points past theirs. The main objective remains outmaneuvering the other side, but new mechanics like power-ups that stretch your paddle or split the ball, along with zero-gravity stages that alter physics, keep matches unpredictable. The AI can be surprisingly aggressive, and some stages ramp up the difficulty with obstacles or narrow alleys. It feels like a familiar game pushed into strange, sometimes chaotic, new territory.
