Power Piggs of the Dark Age came out in 1996 for the Super Nintendo, developed by Radical Entertainment. It was one of those late-era SNES games that tried to stand out with a quirky premise and colorful graphics, arriving at a time when the system's library was already deep with platformers and action titles.
You control a pig knight armed with a sword, exploring levels screen by screen, defeating enemies, and hunting for keys to unlock doors. The pig can swing his sword, perform a butt slam to break crates, and even ride wind gusts to reach higher platforms. You collect donuts to throw at enemies like wolves and skeletons, and the main goal is to rescue your pig friends from cages scattered through each stage. The pacing is brisk, with some tricky jumps and enemy patterns that keep you alert. It feels silly and lighthearted, like a cartoon adventure where you just happen to be a pig in armor.
