Game Overview

Remember lugging around that little gray cartridge alongside your Game Boy Advance? Pro Action Replay was basically a backstage pass to all your favorite games. You’d plug it in, punch in some janky-looking codes you found online (or from that one kid at school who swore they worked), and suddenly—boom—your Pokémon team had all legendaries at level 100, or Link was running around Hyrule with every item from the start.

Half the fun was seeing which codes actually worked. Some would just crash your game, others did weird stuff like turning characters into glitchy messes, but when you hit the right one? Pure chaos. Infinite lives in Mario meant you could finally see what was past that brutal level, and maxed-out stats in RPGs turned grind sessions into power trips.

Yeah, it was cheating—but it was also like having a secret playground mode for games you’d already beaten. The purists could keep their "legit" runs; we were too busy making Fire Emblem characters invincible or giving Wario infinite coins just to see what happened. That little device turned the GBA into a sandbox before sandbox games were even a thing.
