Game Overview

Pro Mahjong Tsuwamono 64 is one of those rare N64 gems that actually makes mahjong feel intense. The AI doesn’t mess around—you’ll start off thinking you’ve got a handle on things, then suddenly get steamrolled by some old man in a virtual back-alley gambling den. The atmosphere’s surprisingly gritty for a Nintendo game, with dimly lit parlors and opponents who look like they’ve been playing since the Showa era.

What I love is how it forces you to actually think ahead instead of just matching tiles. The computer reads your moves like an open book if you play too predictably. First time I tried bluffing with a risky discard, my hands were sweating. It’s got that classic N64 chunky 3D charm too—characters have these exaggerated reactions when they win or lose, like some anime villain just stole their lunch money.

Definitely not for casual players, but if you’re into mahjong (or want to learn the hard way), this one’s got way more personality than your average digital tile game.
