Game Overview

Pro Wrestling (Rev A) came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1987, developed and published by Nintendo. It was one of the earlier attempts to bring the spectacle of wrestling to the home console, arriving at a time when the NES library was still building its identity with straightforward, often challenging, action games.

You choose from a small roster of grapplers, each with a couple of signature moves, and face off against opponents in one-on-one matches. The main goal is to either pin your rival's shoulders to the mat for a three count or force a submission. Gameplay revolves around closing the distance, grabbing your opponent, and executing moves by combining directional inputs with the attack button; timing is everything, and mistiming a move often leaves you vulnerable. Matches can feel chaotic, with momentum swinging quickly, and the computer opponents offer a stiff challenge even on lower difficulties. It feels like a rough but earnest translation of wrestling's physical drama into 8-bit form.
