Qix Adventure came out for the Game Boy Color in 1999, developed and published by Taito. It was part of that era when handheld games were starting to feel more ambitious, with deeper mechanics and a stronger sense of adventure, though it still carried the straightforward charm of earlier arcade-inspired titles.
You control a small character named Speedy, moving through interconnected screens and fencing off portions of the playfield to claim territory. Your main goal is to trap enemies and uncover treasure chests, all while avoiding contact with the Qix, a flowing energy hazard, and Sparx, which dart unpredictably along the edges of your claimed zones. The game requires careful timing and spatial awareness; you often find yourself racing to complete a section before an enemy cuts through your work. It feels tense and strategic, balancing risk and reward as you carve out safe space under pressure.
