Play Radical Rex Online
Skate as a T-Rex, jump, use fire breath to defeat enemies, rescue your dino friends, and explore levels filled with backtracking and tricky platforming in Radical Rex.
Radical Rex came out for the Sega Genesis in 1994, developed by Beam Software. It was one of those side-scrolling platformers that felt right at home on the system, a time when every developer seemed to be trying to put a unique spin on the genre. You played as a skateboarding dinosaur, which was a pretty wild concept even back then.
You control Rex, a T-Rex on a skateboard, and your goal is to rescue your dinosaur friends who have been captured. The main mechanics involve running, jumping, and using your fire breath to defeat enemies. You can also perform tail whips and collect eggs to gain extra lives or power-ups. The levels are designed screen by screen, with a fair amount of backtracking and exploration to find all the captured dinosaurs. The pacing is brisk, but the difficulty can spike unexpectedly in later stages, especially with some tricky platforming sections. It feels like a chaotic, slightly janky ride through a prehistoric theme park.
