Radical Rex hit the Super Nintendo in 1994, developed by Beam Software. It arrived during the SNES era when platformers were plentiful, and this one leaned into a goofy, prehistoric theme without taking itself too seriously. You control a skateboarding dinosaur named Rex, tasked with rescuing his dinosaur friends from an evil shaman.
You move through levels screen by screen, using Rex's tail to whip enemies and his ability to breathe fire to clear obstacles. The game encourages exploration, with hidden areas and collectible dinosaur eggs to find. The pacing is fast, thanks to the skateboarding sections, but the difficulty can spike unexpectedly in later stages. It feels like a chaotic, slightly janky ride through a Saturday morning cartoon.
