Game Overview

Radical Rex came out on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1994, published by Activision. It was part of that wave of early 90s platformers where developers were trying all sorts of ideas, often with a weird, cartoonish energy. You controlled a dinosaur, which wasn't entirely new, but the execution was definitely its own thing.

You play as Rex, a skateboarding Tyrannosaurus who breathes fire at enemies and can perform a screen-clearing roar when you collect enough power-ups. The main goal is to rescue your dinosaur friends from the evil sorcerer, level by level. You'll spend a lot of time jumping between platforms, gliding down slopes on your board, and torching lizard men and pterodactyls. The pacing is pretty fast, and some sections can get tricky with precise jumps. It feels like a chaotic, slightly janky ride through a Saturday morning cartoon.
