Pilot your craft, explore alien landscapes, clear out enemies, reactivate energy towers, and collect power-ups in this 1995 first-person shooter.
Radix: Beyond the Void came out in 1995 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games lineup, published by Epic MegaGames. It was one of those early first-person shooters that tried something different, trading cramped corridors for wide open alien landscapes and low gravity movement. At the time, it stood out for its ambition, even if it never reached the same level of recognition as some of its peers.
You pilot a small attack craft, exploring a hostile alien world screen by screen, clearing areas of enemies before moving on. Your main goal is to reactivate a series of energy towers, fighting through waves of alien drones and larger bosses along the way. The controls take some getting used to; your ship drifts with momentum, making precise aiming a challenge, especially in open spaces. You collect power-ups for your weapons and shields, and the pacing is deliberate, almost methodical, with moments of intense combat broken up by exploration. It feels isolating and strangely immersive, like you're really out there on your own against an entire planet.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
