Play Rango Online
You play as Rango in this top-down adventure—curve bullets with the stylus, dig tunnels, and duel with rapiers while solving the mystery of Beans' missing dad. The controls feel odd at first, but switching between all these weird actions keeps it fresh.

Rango on the Nintendo DS came out in 2011, developed by Behaviour Interactive and published by Electronic Arts. It was one of those many licensed games that filled the DS library, a tie-in with the animated movie of the same name. You don't see many people talk about it now, but it was just there, another cartridge on the shelf during the platform's later years.
You control the chameleon Rango, moving him through a top-down world screen by screen. The main goal is to solve the mystery of the missing water and find the kidnapped father of a character named Beans. You use the stylus to aim and ricochet bullets around corners, which is the most memorable part of the combat. You also dig tunnels to access new areas and engage in quick draw duels that require precise timing. The pacing is a bit uneven, sometimes slow with backtracking, but switching between all these different actions keeps it from getting too stale. It feels like a strange, experimental take on the adventure genre that never quite finds its footing but has moments of genuine cleverness.
