Punch, kick, then suddenly turn into girl-Ranma mid-fight when someone throws water—it’s as chaotic as the anime, with pixel-perfect brawling and ridiculous special moves. Even the duck fights are weirdly satisfying.

Ranma Nibunnoichi came out on the Super Nintendo in 1993, developed by Atelier Double. It was one of those mid-lifecycle SNES releases that tried to capture the feel of a popular anime with solid, if not groundbreaking, side-scrolling action. The game doesn't try to reinvent the wheel, but it does a good job of translating the show's humor and energy into a playable format.
You control Ranma Saotome, moving through stages filled with enemies from the series. The main goal is to fight your way to the end of each level, usually culminating in a boss encounter. Signature mechanics include the Jusenkyo curse, where splashing water transforms Ranma between male and female forms, each with slightly different move sets. Combat involves a mix of standard punches and kicks, along with special moves executed with button combinations. The pacing is brisk, and the difficulty feels fair for the era, with some cheap hits but generally manageable enemy patterns. It feels like a straightforward, fun brawler that stays true to its source material without overcomplicating things.
