Play Ranma Online

Pick your favorite Ranma 1/2 character and mash buttons until special moves accidentally happen—half the fun is watching gender-swapping chaos unfold mid-fight. It’s clunky in that way only 90s anime fighters get away with.

Game Overview

Ranma for the Super Nintendo came out in 1993, developed by Atelier Double. It was part of that wave of games based on popular anime series, trying to capture the show's energy and humor on the console. It doesn't try to reinvent the wheel, just offers a straightforward brawler set in that world.

You control Ranma Saotome, moving through side-scrolling stages and beating up waves of enemies with punches, kicks, and special moves. The main goal is to fight your way to the end of each level, facing a boss character from the series. A couple of the game's mechanics include the ability to splash Ranma with water to change forms, which alters his move set, and a super attack gauge that builds as you land hits. The pacing is fairly quick, though some enemy patterns can feel cheap, leading to a few frustrating moments. It feels like a solid, if unspectacular, adaptation that gets the job done.
