Play Real Football 2009 (EU) Online

Slide tackles actually feel satisfying on the tiny screen, and managing your squad between quick matches gives it some depth without slowing things down. Surprisingly decent for DS football.

Game Overview

Real Football 2009 on the DS is one of those handheld soccer games that actually feels decent to play—surprising for a tiny screen. You’ve got your standard exhibition matches, tournaments, and even a career mode where you manage transfers and lineups. The controls are simple enough (pass, shoot, sprint with the shoulder buttons), but there’s a bit of depth if you want to pull off through balls or slide tackles.

Graphics are obviously limited by the DS hardware, but the players move smoothly, and the animations for goals and fouls aren’t bad. Commentary is basic, just short phrases, but it’s there. What I like is how quick matches are—perfect for short bursts when you’re commuting or just killing time. It won’t replace FIFA on a console, but for portable footy, it does the job.
