Real Football 2009 came out for the Nintendo DS in 2008, developed by Gameloft. It was part of that wave of handheld sports titles trying to capture the feel of console games, but scaled down for on the go play. You control a full team of players, switching between them to pass, shoot, and tackle your way toward the opponent's goal. The main objective is simple: win matches across various leagues and cups. Signature mechanics include using the touch screen for precise through balls and set pieces, while the shoulder buttons handle sprinting and tactical changes. The pacing is quick, matches are short, and the difficulty can spike against stronger teams. It feels responsive and surprisingly complete for a pocket sized football game.
