Resident Evil Zero on GameCube still holds up as one of the creepiest entries in the series. You start off as rookie cop Rebecca Chambers—yes, the same one from RE1—but this time she’s paired with convict Billy Coen, which makes for some tense teamwork. The whole "partner zapping" thing sounds gimmicky at first, but swapping between them mid-puzzle actually works surprisingly well when you’re low on ammo and need to split up.
The train section at the beginning? Pure nightmare fuel. Everything creaks, shadows move where they shouldn’t, and those leech zombies are just unfair. Pro tip: save your handgun bullets for the bigger horrors later. The prerendered backgrounds somehow make everything feel even more claustrophobic than modern 3D games.
If you miss the old-school tank controls and inventory Tetris of classic survival horror, this is basically a love letter to that era—frustrating camera angles and all.
