Resident Evil Zero came out on the Nintendo GameCube in 2002, developed and published by Capcom. It was part of that early wave of GameCube titles that really pushed the hardware, offering a prequel story that filled in some gaps from the first game. The visuals, especially the pre-rendered backgrounds, felt like a step up from what we had on PlayStation, even if the tank controls remained firmly in place.

You control two characters, Rebecca Chambers and Billy Coen, and can switch between them on the fly to solve puzzles and manage your extremely limited inventory. The main goal is to survive the horrors aboard a derailed train and later a sprawling training facility, uncovering a new bioweapon conspiracy. Key mechanics include ditching the item boxes from previous games, forcing you to drop things on the ground to save space, and a partner zapping system that lets you give commands to the character you aren't controlling. The pacing is deliberate, often tense, and the difficulty comes from careful resource management and enemy placement that punishes carelessness. It feels like a constant, stressful negotiation with your own supplies and the environment.
