Game Overview

Resistance: Retribution came out on the PSP in 2009, developed by Bend Studio and published by Sony. It was one of the more ambitious third-person shooters on the handheld, arriving at a time when portable games were starting to feel a lot more like their console counterparts.

You control James Grayson, a former British Marine who defects to the fight against the Chimera after they execute his brother. Your main goal is to destroy Chimera conversion centers across Europe, moving through linear levels with a focus on tactical cover shooting. The cover system is responsive; you snap to walls, pop out to aim, and rely on careful shot placement rather than spray-and-pray. Midway through, Grayson becomes infected with the Chimeran virus, which lets him regenerate health during combat, adding a layer of risk-reward to firefights. The pacing is brisk, and the difficulty pushes you to use the tools you're given. It feels like a solid, mobile extension of the console Resistance experience.
